NATURE is defined by a technique called somenishiki: underglaze blue and overglaze red, painted onto white porcelain in two separate stages, once beneath the glaze and once above it. Painting the same motif twice, at two different depths, gives the pattern a genuine sense of dimension, visible and felt as the piece catches the light.
