Its curved shape sits comfortably in the hands and works well beyond rice, from porridge and yoghurt to fruit, small soup portions, side dishes or dessert.

Look closely and the red and blue stripes do not sit at exactly the same depth. Blue is painted beneath the glaze, while red is applied above it in a separate stage. The difference is subtle, but it gives the simple lines more visual dimension than a single painted layer.
