Hinoki cypress (檜) has a particular quality in Japan: it is the scent of temple floors, newly built interiors, traditional bath houses. Clean and resinous, cool rather than sweet, it is one of the few wood-based scents that feels genuinely restorative rather than simply pleasant. This stick captures that quality with a minimum of fuss.
Kayuragi (かゆらぎ) is a modern incense series from Nippon Kodo (日本香堂), a house whose lineage traces to 1575 and the imperial court of Kyoto. The name joins kaori (香り, fragrance) with yuragi (揺らぎ, a gentle wavering), suggesting the way smoke drifts and transforms a room. Each slim stick burns for around 25 minutes with low, soft smoke, designed for everyday home use rather than ceremony. Nippon Kodo's production follows centuries-old methods: aromatic powders hand-kneaded into paste, rolled into slender sticks, dried naturally to preserve the oils.
