Stone Garden gives incense a setting rather than simply somewhere to burn.
Fine raked lines run along the ceramic tray beneath a single raised, stone-like holder, creating a small garden composition inspired by the rock gardens of Kyoto. The incense becomes part of that landscape as it burns, while the ash settles into the long dish below. The design takes specific inspiration from the rock garden at Ryōan-ji.
The most practical detail is hidden in the composition: the stone-shaped holder lifts out completely. That makes it easy to empty accumulated ash and clean the tray without having to work around a fixed incense support.
At 14.5cm long, the tray gives falling ash plenty of room while the narrow 3.6cm width keeps the holder easy to place on a shelf, desk or bedside table.
When the incense is finished, the raked surface and raised stone still give the piece a reason to remain on display rather than looking like an empty burner.
