Three plates, three colours, one table. Together, they bring a quiet variety that feels natural rather than coordinated.
Made by Kaneko Kohyo (カネコ小兵製陶所), founded 1921 in Toki City, Gifu, now in its fourth generation at the heart of Mino-yaki, Japan's largest ceramic region. The Giyaman series takes its name from the word once used in Edo-period Japan for imported glass, borrowed from the Dutch diamant. The glaze is applied over hand-carved chrysanthemum mould lines and settles into them during firing, producing a depth and luminosity that changes at every angle. The blue, brown and green colourways each read differently in different light, and the three together on a table earn a second look from guests without announcing themselves.
