KOMON takes traditional Japanese patterns and makes them easy to live with every day.

The Arrow Feather motif, or Yabane, has long been regarded as auspicious. Because an arrow moves forward rather than returning once released, the pattern became associated with good fortune and moving positively into a new stage of life.

The decoration is also more considered than a conventional transfer print. KIHARA uses a specialised pad-printing process that retains slight variations in the blue gosu pigment and subtle surface relief, giving the repeated geometry more depth than a perfectly uniform printed design.

At 15cm, it is the kind of plate that gets frequent use: toast or bread alongside breakfast, a slice of cake, cheese and crackers, olives, small starters or a side dish.

Different KOMON patterns share the same indigo-and-white language, so several designs can be mixed around one table while still looking coherent.
