Care instructions

Wash gently with a soft sponge and mild detergent before first use.

Although safe with dishwasher, hand washing is recommended to preserve the glaze and brushed decoration.

Avoid abrasive cleansers, hard scrubbers and sudden temperature changes.

Not recommended for oven or direct flame use.

As with all handcrafted ceramics, slight variations in glaze, linework and finish are part of its character.

Special

At a glance

• Hand-painted cobalt swirls wrap around the bowl with the movement of a turning current
• Large-bowl form gives noodles, ramen, rice and one-bowl meals plenty of depth
• Changes in brush pressure and shading make each hand-painted Uzushio pattern slightly different

The Uzushio pattern is built around movement.

Cobalt blue brushwork sweeps across the white porcelain in broad turning curves, echoing the idea behind uzushio, a swirling tidal current or whirlpool. Because the pattern is painted by hand, changes in line, tone and shading remain visible rather than repeating with mechanical precision.

The bowl itself has a tall, gently narrowing profile traditionally known as kine-gata, or pestle-shaped. At 15cm wide and 8.5cm high, there is enough depth for ramen, udon and other noodle dishes, while the same form works comfortably for donburi rice, curry, soup or another complete one-bowl meal.

The combination of energetic brushwork and practical depth is what separates it from a plain everyday noodle bowl: the function remains familiar, while the surface keeps revealing the hand behind it.
