Care instructions

Place the Stone Garden holder on a stable, heat-resistant surface.

Insert the incense securely and position it so falling ash remains within the tray.

Light the tip, extinguish the flame and allow the incense to smoulder.

Never leave burning incense unattended.

Keep away from children, pets, draughts and flammable materials.

Allow the holder and ash to cool fully before cleaning.

Remove the stone-shaped top when needed for easier cleaning.

Store incense in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and humidity.

At a glance

• Two woody scents for different reading moods: fresh hinoki or a layered Kyoto house blend
• Around 25 minutes per stick gives reading or desk time a clear, repeatable interval
• Ryōan-ji-inspired long holder gives both scents one dedicated setup and is easy to clean

This set includes:
- Nippon Kodo Japanese Cypress, Kayuragi Incense, 40 Sticks
- Kungyokudo House Blend, Sakaimachi 101 Incense, 60 Sticks
- Kousaido Stone Garden Ceramic Incense Holder

Choose a scent, light one stick, open the book.

This set is built around that simple beginning. Japanese Cypress gives the fresher option, with the clean woody character of hinoki. Sakaimachi 101 is more layered: Kungyokudo blended it from inherited formulation records to evoke the mingled fragrant woods and incense around its Kyoto shop and the nearby Nishi Honganji gate town.

Both burn for around 25 minutes, creating a natural interval for reading, journalling or a period of uninterrupted desk work. The fragrance changes, but the setup stays familiar.

The Stone Garden holder gives that routine a permanent place. Inspired by Ryōan-ji's dry landscape garden, its long ceramic form accommodates long incense sticks, while the stone-shaped top lifts off to make cleaning easier. It is not included merely as an ash catcher; it is the piece that connects both fragrances into one repeatable setup.

Use hinoki when you want the room to feel fresher and more woody; choose Sakaimachi 101 when you want something more layered and atmospheric. The repeated act of choosing, lighting and beginning is what brings the set together.
