Light only one end and allow it to smoulder rather than burn with a flame.

Always burn in a heat resistant, non flammable holder with an ash catcher.

Keep well away from children, pets, drapes, and anything flammable.

Avoid storing in high humidity, high temperature, or direct sunlight.

Never leave burning incense unattended.

Make sure ash and embers are fully extinguished and cold before disposal.

For decorative and fragrance use only; not for internal use, even if labelled with herbal materials.

Special

At a glance

- Frankincense and benzoin, the resinous, warm character most people already picture when they think of incense
- Cones rather than sticks, a more contained, concentrated burn
- 10 cones, each burning 15 to 17 minutes
- Comes with a small plate to burn them on

If you've ever associated the word "incense" with something rich and resinous, frankincense in particular, Akane is the closest match in this range. Built around frankincense, benzoin and lily of the valley, it's a fuller, more oriental blend than the rest of the catalogue's lighter florals and fruits.

It's part of Momijizukushi, Kousaido's collection tied to Japanese autumn leaves turning, Akane meaning deep red, built for the season's fullest, most saturated stage. Each cone starts as the same hand-kneaded sandalwood-based paste used across Kousaido's range, worked with natural woods, resins and herbs, then shaped and dried slowly. Kousaido was founded in Kyoto's Karasuma district in 1994, continuing kōdō, the fragrance tradition the city has practised for over 400 years.

Ten cones come in the box, each burning 15 to 17 minutes, along with a small plate to burn them on.

The resinous, classic incense note, in cone form.
