Pomegranate has a quality that most fruit scents lack: a slight tartness that keeps it from tipping into sweetness. This stick opens with that vivid, wine-dark note and settles into soft woods as it burns, leaving something warm and a little unexpected in the room.

Kayuragi (かゆらぎ) is a modern incense series from Nippon Kodo (日本香堂), a house whose lineage traces to 1575 and the imperial court of Kyoto. The name joins kaori (香り, fragrance) with yuragi (揺らぎ, a gentle wavering), suggesting the way smoke drifts and transforms a room. Each slim stick burns for around 25 minutes with low, soft smoke, designed for everyday home use rather than ceremony. Nippon Kodo's production follows centuries-old methods: aromatic powders hand-kneaded into paste, rolled into slender sticks, dried naturally to preserve the oils.
