Glass wind chimes have a particular sound: lighter and more liquid than metal, a tone that suggests water rather than a bell. The Adelia has that quality and adds colour to it.

Made by Tsugaruvidro (津軽びいどろ) in Aomori Prefecture, a glass craft that draws on the colours of the local sea, sky and seasons. Each piece is mouth-blown by hand; the soft bubbles and colour gradations within the glass are the mark of individual making. The Adelia chime is made in soda glass, mouth-blown with soft bubbles and colour gradations built into the body. The blue colourway draws on the colours of the Tsugaru Strait and Aomori's northern sea; the pink on the cherry blossoms of spring. Each chime has its own slight variation in bubble distribution and colour depth. A striker and paper strip (tanzaku) are included; hang it near an open window and let the seasonal breeze do the rest. Bring indoors in heavy rain or winter months.
