Special

At a glance

- Arita-yaki (有田焼), Saga Prefecture, Japan's original porcelain tradition since the early 1600s
- Hand-painted small floral motif (小花草紋) on kine-gata (pestle-shaped) silhouette
- 15cm wide, 8.5cm tall; suits rice, noodles or everyday meals

The pleasure of a well-made donburi bowl is partly functional and partly something harder to name: the way a good silhouette sits in the hands, the way a hand-painted detail catches the eye mid-meal.

This bowl is made in Arita-yaki (有田焼), Saga Prefecture, Japan's original porcelain tradition developed in the early 1600s after Korean potters first discovered kaolin clay on Kyushu. Arita became renowned for its luminous white base and vivid overglaze decoration, eventually exported across the world under the Imari name. The kine-gata (杵型, pestle-shaped) silhouette has a slightly narrowed waist and rounded body that makes the bowl comfortable to hold and practical for everyday use. The small floral motif (小花草紋) is applied by hand, bringing a sense of seasonality and quiet artistry to each piece. Distributed by Ozaki Touki (尾崎陶器) of Saga Prefecture, a fifth-generation coordinator across the Hizen ceramic region.
