The name is the description. A flat, disc-shaped brass bell that looks exactly like what it is called, and sounds entirely unlike anything you would expect.

Made by Nousaku (能作) in Takaoka City, Toyama Prefecture, founded in 1916. Takaoka's metalworking tradition dates to 1609, when the Maeda clan invited craftsmen to develop the castle town; the city now produces around 90% of Japan's copperware. Takaoka Doki (高岡銅器) is designated by Japan's Ministry of Economy as a traditional craft. Each piece is sand cast and hand-finished. The UFO wind chime takes the conventions of the traditional Japanese furin (風鈴) and starts again from a different shape. Where a traditional bell narrows to a point, the disc form produces a bright, expansive tone that spreads outward rather than fading in one direction. Sand cast in brass and hand-polished to a crisp finish, the UFO sits somewhere between a serious craft object and something that makes guests ask questions. Available in gold and silver.
