The Ancient Pottery bowl is made in Mino-yaki (美濃焼), Gifu Prefecture, a ceramic region with over 1,300 years of history and responsible for roughly half of all tableware produced in Japan. CHIPS Inc. was founded in 2016 with a clear purpose: to make tableware people reach for without thinking. Rather than manufacturing directly, they partner with specialist Mino factories whose craftsmen understand the clay intimately, producing pieces that combine contemporary design sensibility with deep regional skill. The Ancient Pottery glaze takes its cue from vintage folk ceramics: a softly weathered finish with yuragi (揺らぎ), the quiet irregularities and natural speckle that make each piece slightly different from the next. At 14.5cm wide with a generous depth, this large bowl handles curry rice, pasta, salads or any dish meant for the centre of the table.
