Wood holds warmth differently from ceramic. Not borrowed warmth from a hot drink, but something that lives in the grain itself. This set gathers four of Shirasagi Mokkogei's hand-turned pieces for a table that feels quietly considered.
Made by Shirasagi Mokkogei (白鷺木工) in Yamanaka Onsen, Ishikawa Prefecture, working within the Yamanaka Shikki (山中漆器) tradition, a METI-designated craft with over 400 years of history. Each piece is turned on a lathe until the walls reach 1 to 2mm, then finished with fuki-urushi wiped lacquer that reveals the wood's grain and natural warmth rather than concealing it. The set is designed to be used together, and the contrast between the zelkova's dramatic wavy grain and the cherry's quieter warmth gives the table a considered variety.
* Because no two pieces of wood are the same in nature, every one of these truely has its unique pattern and colour. The final cup and bowl for your order will be selected at random and these photos are for reference only.
