At a glance
- The one Japanese incense scent you've probably already tasted, in ponzu, yuzu tea or on a restaurant menu
- Sharp, distinct citrus grounded in sandalwood, unlike most bottled citrus scents
- 40 sticks, each burning 20 to 30 minutes
- Comes with a small incense holder, ready to burn straight away
If you've had ponzu, yuzu tea, or spotted it on a restaurant menu, you already know yuzu, a sharp, distinct citrus with more depth than lemon or orange. This is that same flavour carried into fragrance, grounded in sandalwood rather than fading fast the way most citrus scents do.
Each stick starts as a hand-kneaded paste on a base of white sandalwood, worked with natural woods, resins and herbs, then rolled thin and dried slowly. Kousaido, the Kyoto maker behind it, was founded in 1994 in the Karasuma district, continuing kōdō, the fragrance tradition the city has practised for over 400 years.
Forty sticks come in the box, along with a small holder to burn them in.
A flavour you already know, now in the room instead of the cup.
