Sometimes a single sound is enough to mark a change of pace.

Strike Astrolin before meditation, when beginning something new, or between one part of the day and the next. Its clear note opens quickly and leaves a long after-ring, giving you a simple audible cue to pause before moving on.

That sound is not accidental. The orin sits at a carefully designed 60° angle, helping the supplied mallet meet a good striking point naturally. Beneath it, a patented loose-mount structure allows the metal to keep vibrating instead of restricting the resonance. Its sound is also designed around 1/f fluctuation, a pattern of variation associated with rhythms found in nature.

Astrolin is made in Takaoka, Toyama, where Yamaguchi Kyujo draws on the city's long metalworking tradition. The copper-alloy orin is cast and finished by skilled craftspeople, paired with a brass base and zelkova-wood mallet. The selected materials, acoustic engineering and specialist construction are what separate it from an ordinary desk or service bell.

Even the astronaut-like silhouette comes from function: the slight tilt that helps produce the sound also gives Astrolin its distinctive character. In Dark Bronze, it is designed to remain part of the room between uses rather than being put away after it rings.
