From a distance, the pattern reads almost like a sunburst. Up close, the fine lines reveal another part of the design: they sit slightly raised above the porcelain.

Each line is applied individually using icchin, a decorating technique that gives the radial tokusa pattern physical texture rather than leaving it completely flat. Its planet-inspired composition is finished with a muted metallic sheen that shifts subtly as light moves across the plate.

At 21.3cm, it is a practical main plate for fish, meat, salads, sandwiches or a plated lunch or dessert.

The decoration covers enough of the surface that the plate does not lose its purpose once the meal is finished. Left upright on an open shelf or plate stand between uses, the tactile radial design works as a decorative ceramic object as naturally as it does tableware.
