At a glance

• A bright green frog wears a bib marked with the Japanese character for good fortune
• Bold blue outlines and vintage-style printing give the character a playful appearance

A wide-eyed green frog fills this postcard, wearing a bib marked with the character fuku (福), meaning good fortune.

The frog also carries a traditional Japanese association with safe returns. Kaeru, the Japanese word for frog, sounds the same as the verb meaning “to return”, making it a familiar lucky motif for travellers.

Simple shapes, strong outlines and retro print textures bring a cheerful graphic character to the design.
