Special

At a glance

• Turn it upside down and the tumbler itself becomes Mount Fuji
• Tin takes on the chill of a cold drink quickly, bringing the temperature directly into your hand
• Mount Fuji is an auspicious symbol in Japan, giving the piece added meaning as a gift
• Choose White, Black, Blue or Yellow, each giving the same Fuji form a different presence

This is not a tumbler with Mount Fuji printed on it. The tumbler itself becomes the mountain.

Turn it upside down and the broad rim, rising slopes and narrow base form Fuji’s familiar silhouette. Colour runs across the textured exterior while the natural silver tone of the tin remains visible at the base, giving each version a different character without changing the mountain itself.

Tin changes the drinking experience too. It conducts temperature quickly, so pour in a cold drink and the tumbler itself cools almost immediately. The substantial metal and compact form make that chilled sensation particularly noticeable in the hand.

Mount Fuji has long held a special place in Japanese culture and is also associated with good fortune, giving the piece extra meaning when chosen as a gift. Presented in a paulownia wood box, it works particularly well for a new beginning, milestone or celebration.

It is made by Osaka Suzuki, specialists in Osaka Naniwa Tinware. The workshop is led by craftsman Tatsumasa Imai, named a Contemporary Master Craftsman in 2012.
