Violet has a classic kind of elegance, closer to powder than to flower, suited to reading in an armchair or writing a letter rather than a room full of people. Laid softly over woods, it's the most understated of the three Hana-no-Hana florals, the one to reach for when a room needs only a little fragrance rather than a lot.

The series was created in 1911 by master blender Yujiro Kito, who combined traditional Japanese incense craft with Western floral perfumery, often cited as Japan's first modern perfumed incense. Each stick is designed to leave a gentle nokoriga, a lingering scent, in the room well after it finishes burning.

Each stick burns for around 20 minutes. Forty sticks come in the box.
