Most chopsticks are round or square. The triangular cross-section on these sits differently in the hand: the three flat faces give a natural resting point for the fingers and a more confident grip at the tip.
Made in the Echizen Shikki (越前漆器) tradition of Fukui Prefecture, a lacquerware craft with roots stretching back over 1,500 years and designated by Japan's Ministry of Economy as a traditional craft. Echizen craftsmen have refined the balance, tip geometry and lacquer application of chopsticks for centuries, producing a surface that is smooth to the touch and slightly grippy enough for confident handling. These chopsticks are finished in urushi lacquer with a slender, tapered tip suited to precise handling. The set includes a small Mt. Fuji (富士山) chopstick rest: a calm, quietly auspicious detail that makes the set feel complete and considered. Well suited to daily use or as a gift.
