At a glance
• Scattered gold leaf catches the light without covering the entire porcelain surface
• Designed for a single flower or slender stem rather than a full bouquet
• Compact, egg-shaped form suits a desk, bedside table or small shelf
You don't need a large bouquet to make a flower arrangement feel complete.
This small Kutani Ware vase by Meizan Kiln is designed for a single stem. Its softly rounded, egg-shaped body narrows towards the opening, giving one flower or a simple sprig of foliage a place of its own.
The porcelain is decorated with scattered gold leaf, a technique known as kinpaku chirashi. Instead of covering the whole vase in gold, the decoration is distributed across the surface, allowing individual highlights to catch the light.
At approximately 10cm high, the vase can sit on a bedside table, desk or narrow shelf where a larger arrangement might be impractical. Changing the flower with the seasons offers an easy way to refresh the display without replacing the vase.
Unlike a plain glass bud vase, the gold decoration gives this piece visual interest even when it is empty. It is a useful choice for someone who enjoys keeping fresh flowers at home but prefers small, uncomplicated arrangements.
