When you use it for the first time, the wood is dry, so rice tends to stick to it. Before adding rice, wet the inside with water and wipe it lightly so it stays slightly damp.

How to wash
1. Fill the bowl with hot water.
2. Wash gently with a sponge.
3. If there is stubborn dirt, leave it soaking in hot water for about 2–3 minutes to warm the bowl.
4. Immediately wipe off moisture with a cloth, turn the bowl upside down to let steam escape.
5. Do not wash the bowl in a dishwasher or subject it to boiling water.

Special

At a glance

• Bent cedar carries flowing grain around the bowl, with an overlapping seam revealing its construction.
• Approximately 66g, with a lightness you notice each time you lift it.
• Naturally insulating wood helps keep soup and porridge warm while you eat.
• Gently tapered sides allow matching bowls to stack neatly.

The first surprise is the weight. At approximately 66g, this cedar bowl is easy to lift and hold throughout a meal, while the wood’s natural insulation helps keep food warm.

Kurikyu makes it in Odate, Akita, bending thin cedar into a gently tapered shape. Closely spaced grain follows the sides and changes direction at the overlapping joint. It is a small detail that makes the way the bowl is constructed part of its appeal.

Clear urethane protects both surfaces without hiding the grain, making the bowl practical for soup, rice or a modest serving of porridge. After eating, hand wash and wipe dry. Matching bowls stack neatly, so a material that feels different in the hands still fits comfortably into an everyday cupboard.
