In 1598, legendary Lord Toyotomi Hideyoshi held his celebrated Daigo no Hanami (醍醐の花見) at Daigo-ji (醍醐寺), gathering hundreds of guests beneath cherry trees he had planted across the restored temple grounds. It remains one of the most famous flower-viewing gatherings in Japanese history. This incense takes its name and its feeling from that occasion: not the drama of full bloom, but the quieter pleasure of petals and soft air.

The scent is gentle and true to the flower, balancing sweetness with a soft floral note that stops well short of perfume. Kungyokudo (薫玉堂) was founded in 1594 near Nishi Hongan-ji temple in Kyoto and is often cited as Japan's oldest continuing incense shop. Over four centuries, the house has refined its blending methods using natural woods and aromatics, producing incense with a restrained, precise character that reflects Kyoto's aesthetic sensibility. The slender sticks burn with modest smoke, suited to smaller rooms or any space where the fragrance should suggest rather than fill. Sixty sticks, enough for the season and beyond."
