The coelacanth gives this cup its character before anything is poured into it.

Painted in deep black sumi-gosu, the prehistoric fish has an almost fossil-like presence against the pale porcelain. Variations within the pigment and brushwork give the image depth without turning it into a highly decorative piece.

The unusual KOSHUHAI shape has an equally specific purpose. Its rounded interior guides fragrance upwards along the cup and keeps it circulating closer to the narrowed opening, making aroma more noticeable before and as you drink.

A slight waist gives the fingers a natural place to settle. Underneath, three small feet raise the base from the table and help prevent condensation from lifting a coaster along with the cup.

Originally developed around aromatic drinks, the 300ml form leaves room for ice and works naturally for whisky or shochu, while tea and coffee benefit from the same aroma-focused shape.
