A cup designed around the senses fragrance first.
The KOUSYUHAI was developed in collaboration between Kihara's Arita kiln network and Kyushu distillers to solve a specific problem: conventional tumblers allow aromatic compounds to escape before they reach the nose. The KOUSYUHAI's distinctive inwardly curved interior creates a column of captured air that concentrates fragrance a design principle borrowed from whisky nosing glasses, made permanent in Arita porcelain.
The coelacanth design a prehistoric fish rendered in deep gosu black by a skilled Arita craftsman is one of the most visually striking in the range. The coelacanth, a living fossil that has existed largely unchanged for 400 million years, carries a quiet poetry for a cup designed to honour things that endure.
At approximately 300ml with a gentle rim taper, this cup works beautifully for whisky on the rocks, shochu, sake at room temperature, or simply good green tea on a quiet evening.
