KOSOMETSUKE Porcelain Rice Bowl, Antique Indigo Reed Stripe

From a distance, the vertical stripes look simple. Up close, changes in brush width, indigo tone and glaze give the pattern much more character.

KOSOMETSUKE begins with a white porcelain body developed to recreate the look of early Imari. It is then decorated with gosu pigment and a special glaze chosen for the softer, varied surface it produces. The small red accent adds an unexpected point of warmth against the antique indigo.

The vertical tokusa pattern takes its name from horsetail, whose straight, ribbed stems inspired this long-used Japanese stripe motif.

There is another detail underneath: finger marks left around the foot during glazing are intentionally retained rather than concealed.

The deeper 11.5cm bowl works naturally for rice, porridge, yoghurt, a small serving of soup or side dishes.
