The unglazed base can mark delicate surfaces; use a mat
or coaster underneath where needed.

A fine crackle (kannyu) may appear naturally from firing; this is a normal characteristic rather than a fault, though the surface is absorbent, so tea and other stains can catch in it more easily over time.

Snowflakes drift across the rim of this plate, in white so pale against the ground that they only properly reveal themselves when the light catches them side on, or in blue, each burst slightly different from the last, as if the plate had been left out in a very gentle snowfall. Harekutani chose the motif deliberately: a snowflake's six sided form is the most stable shape in nature, and in Japan that stability is read as a quiet promise of lasting love and happiness, a genuinely lucky design rather than a simply wintery one.

Behind the name sits Kitano Toujudou, a Kutani wholesaler working out of Nomi City, Ishikawa, since 1972. Harekutani itself only began in 2017, built to bring a lighter touch to a porcelain tradition well over 360 years old.

The wide rim and shallow well hold a Sunday roast or a bowl of pasta comfortably, the gravy or sauce staying where it is put rather than running for the edge, exactly how Harekutani style it themselves. Presented in a dedicated Snow Crystal gift box, making it as suited to giving as to keeping.
