The cat is not decoration added afterwards. It is the shape of the plate itself.

Its ears, body and curling tail define the silhouette, while the three colourways turn that same form into different cats. Blue uses larger irregular patches, Green concentrates its striped pattern around the tail, and Red scatters finer markings across the white porcelain.

The elongated body gives food a generous serving area while the head and tail remain part of the presentation. At 26cm, it works for a fish fillet with vegetables, cheese and crackers, antipasti, canapés or an informal one-plate lunch.

The idea also continues beyond this size. The same Harekutani cat family includes a 14cm side plate and a cat-shaped chopstick rest, so the motif can appear at different scales across the table without needing a completely matching dinner set.
