There is a cat on this mug who seems entirely unbothered by the morning, which is rather the point.

Made in the Echizen Shikki (越前漆器) tradition of Fukui Prefecture, a lacquerware craft with roots stretching back over 1,500 years and designated by Japan's Ministry of Economy as a traditional craft, this mug is finished by hand in urushi (漆) lacquer. The lacquer gives the surface a warmth and depth that paint cannot replicate: a soft luminosity that feels present rather than decorative. The cat motif sits on this surface with a relaxed, affectionate character that suits the piece well. At approximately 150g the mug is light enough to feel effortless in daily use, whilst the urushi surface develops a gentle patina over time. Available in black, green, pink and red; each colourway gives the cat a different mood.
