"Origami" incense holder
Chūshin Kōbō’s Hisanori Masuda (70s), founder and sole craftsman, revives Yamagata’s historic iron casting through exclusive, modern designs. Inspired by the delicate art of origami (paper folding), this “Origami” incense plate is cast in tetsu (iron) to capture the look of a simple sheet of paper folded in two.
While the design is intentionally minimal, it reveals fascinating new shapes and facets depending on the angle from which it is viewed. Perfectly sized for enjoying shorter incense sticks, it serves as an elegant, sculptural stand for your daily incense rituals. The heavy, tactile nature of the cast iron provides a grounded, stable base, while its subtle geometry turns a simple incense holder into a piece of tabletop art. Over time, the iron surface develops a subtle patina, adding depth to the dark metal. Minimalist yet rooted in traditional metalcasting, it works well with both Japanese and contemporary interiors, turning a simple stick of incense into a little architectural composition.
