The best everyday mug is the one you reach for without thinking. This one has been designed so that several of them can live on an open shelf in a tower, each glaze different, taking up almost no space at all.

Made in Mino-yaki (美濃焼) by CHIPS Inc., a Gunma-based design studio that partners with specialist Mino factories to produce tableware people use without ceremony. The straight walls are not just a design choice: they allow the mugs to stack stably, the inset base of each sitting cleanly inside the one below. A generously sized handle gives a secure three-finger grip; the gently curved lip is comfortable whether the cup holds coffee, tea, or hojicha. At 280ml and 8.3cm wide, the capacity is right for a proper drink without being oversized. Available in five glaze colourways; mixing them is the point.
