This set moves through three very different fragrance directions. Osmanthus is sweet, fruity and floral; Pomegranate is fresher and noticeably tart; Red Maple moves into warmer incense territory with frankincense and benzoin. Nippon Kodo describes its two Kayuragi fragrances in those contrasting floral and sour-fruit terms, while the Red Maple cones bring the richer resinous end of the set.

The contrast is what makes the set useful for discovery. Start with blossom, move into fruit, then try something warmer and more resinous. You may find that one fragrance family suits you more than the others rather than having to choose a full box without comparison.

The two Kayuragi fragrances burn for around 25 minutes per stick; the Red Maple cones burn for around 15 to 17 minutes. Each fragrance also comes with what you need to start using it: the Kayuragi boxes include small ceramic holders and the cones include an incense dish.
