The maneki-neko, Japan's beckoning cat with one paw raised to welcome good luck, is one of Tokyo's most universally recognised symbols. Here it takes centre stage on a 14.5cm Arita porcelain plate hand-crafted from the same white stone-clay that has made Arita famous since 1616 rendered in classic sometsuke blue-and-white with the dense, layered detail of traditional Japanese illustration.

This is one of six Tokyo Icon designs, each capturing a different facet of the city: Tokyo Tower, the Yamanote Line, sushi, sumo. Together they build a collection that makes a genuinely memorable gift for someone who loves Japan, for a guest who visited, or simply because the illustrations are wonderful.
