This set includes:

1 x Seikou Kiln Kutani Ware Porcelain Plate, 21cm, Ishidatami
1 x Seikou Kiln Kutani Ware Porcelain Mug, 330ml, Ishidatami
1 x Seikou Kiln Kutani Ware Porcelain Rice Bowl, Ishidatami

Ishidatami brings a traditional Japanese geometric pattern into a very familiar everyday table setting.

The design takes its name from stone paving laid in a repeating grid. Because the pattern appears to continue without end, it has long been associated with continuity, development and prosperity.

Its geometry also suits Seikou Kiln's approach to Kutani decoration particularly well. Glossy overglaze colours sit slightly above the porcelain surface, giving the checks more depth than a completely flat print. The colours have a glass-like quality, while the transfer sheets are produced by the kiln and applied to the forms by hand.

The three pieces cover a broad part of the day. The 330ml mug has the familiar capacity of an everyday tea or coffee mug, the 21cm plate works for toast, sandwiches, pastries, salad or cake, and the compact bowl suits cereal, yoghurt, rice, soup or dessert.

Together, they create a coordinated setting without asking every meal to feel formal. The repeating pattern gives the set its identity; the practical mix of forms gives it a reason to stay in regular use.
