This is a curry plate designed around what happens when the spoon reaches the edge.

One side rises higher than the other and the interior slopes towards it, giving the spoon a surface to work against rather than simply pushing food around a flat plate. The broad rim also makes the generous oval form easier to pick up and carry.

The depth is equally useful beyond curry. At 28.2 × 21cm and 7.5cm high, there is room for rice, sauce and toppings without feeling crowded, while pasta, risotto, grain bowls and generous salads fit the same shape naturally.

The porcelain body is deliberately kept relatively thin to reduce weight while maintaining strength, and the dishes nest efficiently when stacked. The smooth interior also makes cleaning straightforward.

Lazuri is the deep-blue version of this Mikawachi curry-plate design, finished with a fine gold line around the rim. The rich colour gives an everyday functional plate enough presence for a more considered dinner or for serving guests.

The design received an Excellence Award at the 2021 Nagasaki Prefecture New Specialty Products Exhibition, recognising the combination of Mikawachi craftsmanship and practical everyday function.
