Tsugaruvidro (津軽びいどろ) is a glass craft from Aomori Prefecture that draws on the colours of the local sea, sky and seasons. Each piece is mouth-blown and hand-formed by craftsmen; the layered coloured glass shifts as the light moves across the surface, and individual differences between pieces are the mark of hand production. This set contains two rests from the MATSURI HANABI series. The MATSURI rest evokes the colour and energy of a Japanese summer festival: mikoshi portable shrines, the rhythm of hayashi music, the flash of happi festival coats. The HANABI rest captures the moment fireworks burst across the night sky, vivid colours radiating outward in layered glass. Each rest is hand-formed and shows its own slight variation. The chopsticks are Wakasa-nuri (若狭塗), a lacquer tradition from Obama City, Fukui Prefecture, designated as a traditional craft. Each pair is hand-finished; the wood grain and colour tone vary between pairs. The combination of Aomori glass and Fukui lacquerwork brings two distinct Japanese craft traditions to a single place at the table. Presented in a decorative gift box.
