The base is left unglazed as part of the making process; if it feels rough, sanding it smooth is recommended. Avoid cleansers or metal scouring pads, as they will damage the painted design. This is porous earthenware; dry thoroughly before storing, as damp storage can cause mould or staining.

The Banko Ware stoneware has a reassuring weight and a more tactile, slightly rough surface than a smooth porcelain mug. It suits anyone who prefers a cup that feels substantial in the hand rather than especially light or refined.

The handle adds another small but useful detail. A shallow recess on the top sits naturally under the thumb, giving the grip a more settled feel when the mug is full.

Then there are the cats. Two faces sit together on the front, while a third, simpler face appears on the back. Cream keeps the design softer and more understated, while Black gives the illustration stronger contrast.

At 300ml, it is a practical everyday size for tea, coffee or hot chocolate, but its weight, texture and handle shape give it a noticeably different feel from a conventional smooth ceramic mug.
