Rather than placing one large blossom at the centre, KOMON repeats small cherry flowers across almost the entire plate.

The result is floral without feeling delicate or overly decorative. Cherry blossom has long been closely tied to spring in Japan and to an appreciation of beauty made more memorable because it does not last forever.

The indigo pattern also has more surface character than an ordinary transfer print. KOMON's specialised pad-printing process deliberately retains slight differences in pigment density and subtle relief, adding depth to the repeated five-petal forms.

At 24cm wide and 3.5cm high, the gently deeper shape works for pasta, curry, salads with dressing, a cooked breakfast or other main dishes where a completely flat dinner plate is less useful.

Mixed with KOMON side plates in different motifs, it creates a table that feels collected rather than bought as a single matching set.
