The gold does not sit in a neat border or cover the glass evenly. Instead, small flashes appear through the softly clouded surface, catching the light differently as the bowl moves.

This is the character of Kinsai Awayuki, or “Gold Light Snow”. Handmade Edo Glass is paired with real Kanazawa gold leaf, while the translucent, snow-like finish keeps the effect light rather than heavily decorative. At 11cm wide and 5.5cm high, it is particularly useful for the smaller servings that benefit from a little presentation: ice cream, panna cotta, berries, yoghurt and fruit, as well as appetisers, small salads and side dishes. The clear glass also lets the colours of the food remain visible beneath the gold.

Each bowl is handmade, so small bubbles and variations in shape, glass tone and gold placement are part of its individual character rather than signs of a perfectly uniform finish.
