At a glance

• The Good Fortune Knot shapes the plate itself rather than appearing as a flat motif
• Hand-painted gold traces a knot associated with good fortune and good health
• Palm-sized form suits chocolates, petit fours, condiments and other small servings

Here, the knot is not simply decoration. It determines the shape of the plate itself.

The interlocking form is Kichijo Musubi, the Good Fortune Knot, traditionally associated with wishes for good fortune and good health. Fine gold lines are painted by hand around the white porcelain, following each crossing and turn of the knot.

At 10.5cm, it is useful for the small things that benefit from their own place: chocolates, petits fours, olives, condiments, a lemon wedge or a small sweet beside tea.

The meaning also gives the plate a natural gifting role. It is compact enough for a thoughtful gesture, while the gold and auspicious knot give that gesture a specific message rather than making it purely decorative.
