The lacquer gives the surface a warmth and depth that paint cannot replicate: a soft luminosity that feels present rather than decorative. The cat motif sits on this surface with a relaxed, affectionate character that suits the piece well. At approximately 150g the mug is light enough to feel effortless in daily use, whilst the urushi surface develops a gentle patina over time.
